President Droupadi Murmu, in a strong statement on August 28, 2024, declared that it is time for India to confront and challenge the disturbing reality of crimes against women. She criticized what she termed as the “collective amnesia” of society regarding these atrocities and emphasized that no civilized community should permit such violence against women.
In her exclusive article for PTI, President Murmu urged a shift in mindset that diminishes women as “less powerful, less capable, and less intelligent.” She further asserted that those who harbor such views often objectify women, and stressed the need to eliminate obstacles that hinder women’s freedom and security.
