In the ongoing investigation into the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the case has triggered widespread protests and disruptions across the country. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) called for a nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency medical services for 24 hours to demand justice for the victim.
Protests have erupted in several cities, including a candlelight vigil by doctors at Ghatkopar Rajawadi Hospital in Mumbai, condemning the incident. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has led a protest march, accusing the BJP-Left alliance of orchestrating the unrest. In response, the IMA has issued a statement expressing deep concern and demanded stricter laws to ensure the safety of medical professionals.

The Calcutta High Court has taken notice of the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College, describing it as a failure of the state machinery.
As investigations continue, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its efforts, questioning several individuals linked to the case, including the former principal of the hospital.
