On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a strategic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, centering on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. This discussion followed PM Modi’s recent visit to Kyiv, highlighting India’s active role in seeking a peaceful resolution.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, We explored ways to further enhance our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. We also exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where I shared insights from my recent visit to Ukraine. India remains committed to advocating for an early, enduring, and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The Ministry of External Affairs, through a press release, underscored the significant aspects of the conversation. It mentioned that PM Modi reflected on his successful visit to Russia last month for the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit. The leaders reviewed progress on various bilateral issues and deliberated on strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
The discussion also extended to a broader spectrum of regional and global matters of mutual interest, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict. PM Modi shared his observations from Ukraine, emphasizing the need for ongoing dialogue, diplomacy, and sincere engagement among all parties to achieve a peaceful resolution.
The leaders agreed to maintain communication and continue their discussions on these critical issues.
Additionally, a day prior, PM Modi had a conversation with US President Joe Biden, where they exchanged views on regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India’s unwavering support for the swift restoration of peace and stability in the region. The discussions also touched on the situation in Bangladesh, stressing the need for normalcy and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, particularly Hindus, in the country.
