Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted on Thursday that deceit is not part of India’s character. Speaking to the Indian diaspora in the United States, Singh emphasized that their commitment to their host country should be respected and not doubted.
“I want to urge Indians working here to act with full integrity. While your loyalty to India is important, your dedication to America, as your current home, should be equally acknowledged. This approach will foster positive perceptions of Indians abroad,” Singh stated.
Singh highlighted the principle that “deceit is not in our nature,” asserting that while India can be deceived, it does not deceive others. He urged that this message be conveyed globally.
India, according to Singh, has always promoted the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—the notion that the world is one family. He elaborated that India’s message of unity transcends all boundaries of caste, religion, and community.
“India’s belief that the entire world is one family is unique. Such a spiritual outlook is something only a nation with deep values can offer,” Singh remarked.
In discussing India-US relations, Singh described the two countries as natural allies with a shared destiny. He highlighted the historical and growing ties between the nations and emphasized their role in global peace and stability.
Singh also noted the significant transformation in India’s global image over the past decade. During his visit to the US, he plans to meet with US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss strategic interests and enhance defense cooperation.
Before his departure for Washington, Singh posted on X, “Heading to Washington. India and the United States have a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. I look forward to meeting @SecDef Austin to discuss strategic matters and strengthen our defense ties.”
