Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, marking the final day of his tour to the US. The museum, which chronicles the history of the American civil rights movement from the 17th century to the present, is located at the site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. It also features a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, honoring his influence on the non-violent struggle for civil rights.
During his visit, Shri Rajnath Singh engaged with members of the Indian diaspora from Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, and surrounding areas. He praised their significant contributions to society, science, and the economy, describing them as a ‘living bridge’ that strengthens the ties between India and the US, fostering goodwill and closer relations.
Shri Rajnath Singh also highlighted the community’s efforts in establishing a Mahatma Gandhi exhibit and placing two honorary ‘Gandhi Way’ street signs near the museum on the 150th anniversary of Gandhi’s birth in 2019. In concluding his US visit, the Raksha Mantri emphasized India’s remarkable growth over the past decade and its promising future.
