Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, today inaugurated the 24/7 Water Supply Project at Manimajra, Chandigarh, as part of the Smart City Mission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has actively worked to enhance the quality of life in urban areas through initiatives like the Smart Cities Mission. By the end of Modi’s third term, every household in India is expected to have access to clean drinking water.
Starting today, over one lakh residents of Manimajra (Chandigarh) will have 24/7 access to clean drinking water. This project, costing approximately Rs 75 crore, includes the construction of two large reservoirs and a 22 km pipeline to ensure continuous water supply.
The Jal Jeevan Mission has provided clean drinking water to 74% of Indian households, reducing diarrhoea-related deaths by 300,000. This project in Manimajra is part of these broader efforts.
Women in Manimajra no longer need to set alarms for water; it will be available anytime from their taps. The installation of smart meters will also prevent leakage costs from being passed onto consumers.
Over the past decade, the Central Government has invested Rs 30,000 crore in Chandigarh, with Rs 29,000 crore dedicated to infrastructure improvements.
Shri Amit Shah emphasized that the current government will complete its full term, despite any destabilizing efforts from opposition. He highlighted various developmental milestones achieved under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, including space missions, surgical strikes, and the abolition of Article 370.
The government remains focused on continuing its developmental agenda, aiming to make India a developed nation by 2047. Shri Amit Shah concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to long-term stability and progress, assuring that the NDA will continue to lead with a strong majority in the future.
