Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review and inter-state coordination meeting on Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh today. The meeting, attended by Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police from Chhattisgarh and neighboring states, focused on strategies to combat LWE, enhance inter-state coordination, and bolster development efforts in affected areas.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the campaign against Left-Wing Extremism is at a critical phase, with a goal to eradicate it completely by March 2026. Shah emphasized the need for a rigorous approach to dismantle the entire LWE ecosystem, citing the urgency of addressing this threat to national and human security.
During the meeting, Shah highlighted the successful implementation of the Modi government’s strategy, which integrates development, prosecution, and operational measures. He noted significant progress in reducing LWE activities, particularly in Chhattisgarh, where recent efforts have led to a high number of Naxalite neutralizations and surrenders.
Shah urged the Director Generals of Police to develop weekly action plans and stressed that Chief Secretaries should review development work in LWE-affected areas bi-weekly. He emphasized that continuous monitoring and prompt action are essential for achieving desired outcomes.
Addressing the issue of Naxalism, Shah underscored that it extends beyond ideology to include socio-economic development challenges. He called for a comprehensive approach, including the proper training of Special Investigation Agencies (SIAs) and enhanced coordination with the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Additionally, he stressed the need to cut off funding sources and weapon supplies related to LWE.
Shah also urged states to ensure that government schemes are fully implemented in LWE-affected regions and to develop educational policies for those impacted by the extremism. He highlighted the importance of a coordinated attack on the supply chain and financing of LWE, with a focus on both combating the ideology and addressing human rights concerns.
The Union Home Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism and urged all states to accelerate their efforts to meet the 2026 deadline set by Prime Minister Modi.
