Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled 25 challenges as part of the ‘Create in India Challenge – Season 1’ for the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES). Speaking at the launch, he emphasized that this initiative is a testament to India’s evolving creators’ economy, which has been recognized by the Prime Minister, as highlighted during the inaugural National Creators Award in March 2024.
The Union Minister stressed that the creators’ economy is an excellent platform for showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and diversity. The government is committed to supporting this sector by fostering talent development and building essential infrastructure. Plans are in place to establish world-class universities and facilities that will enhance the skills of creators across media and entertainment.
Shri Vaishnaw highlighted that the film sector has tremendous potential for integrating new technologies, which could result in the creation of 2-3 lakh new jobs. He also emphasized the need for collective responsibility in ensuring that society is not adversely impacted by this growth, noting that all stakeholders—including the government, industry, and society—play a role.
The minister described WAVES as a platform with the potential to become a significant event in the global entertainment landscape, bringing together industry leaders, creators, and visionaries.
Ministry of I&B Secretary, Shri Sanjay Jaju, remarked that this initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Design in India, Design for the World,” as outlined during his Independence Day address. He emphasized that WAVES will serve as a global platform where creative minds from around the world converge to share ideas and push the boundaries of innovation.
