Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar underscored the importance of India’s inclusive and multilateral approach in fostering global stability and advancing the Global South’s progress. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave, he emphasized that India’s rise as a vibrant democracy and home to a significant portion of humanity is crucial for global peace and stability.
The Vice-President addressed the theme “Creating ONE Future,” calling for collective efforts to shape a sustainable and inclusive future. He stressed that addressing climate change, which he described as ‘the greatest threat to humanity,’ requires united global action. Dhankhar highlighted the urgency of engaging all nations in this critical endeavor, noting, “We have no other planet to inhabit.”
Shri Dhankhar praised the deep-rooted India-Africa partnership, which is grounded in shared history and mutual goals for justice and progress. He emphasized that a resurgent Africa and a rising India can significantly enhance South-South Cooperation, particularly in areas such as clean technology, climate-resilient agriculture, maritime security, and the blue economy.
The Vice-President also celebrated the African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member during India’s 2023 Presidency, calling it a notable geopolitical achievement. He commended African countries’ involvement in initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuel Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. Dhankhar affirmed India’s support for Africa’s representation in the UN through the ‘Ezulwini Consensus’ and the ‘Sirte Declaration.’
He also expressed gratitude for Africa’s role in India’s biodiversity restoration efforts, including the reintroduction of cheetahs, and invited African nations to join the International Big Cat Alliance.
Highlighting India’s historical stance against expansion, the Vice-President reaffirmed India’s commitment to building partnerships based on mutual benefit and shared success. He noted that India’s advancements in digitization and technology offer numerous opportunities for collaboration and joint growth.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Vice-Presidents from several African nations and key figures from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
