Visakha Steel General Hospital (VSGH) at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is hosting a week-long event from August 1st to 7th in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2024, aimed at raising public awareness.
The festivities began with a program in the VSGH Conference Hall, where Dr. A.P. Naveen Kumar, GM (Medical & Health Services) and Head of the Department (HOD) of Medical, alongside Dr. P.K. Gautam, DGM (Medical) in General Surgery, unveiled educational posters and flyers about breastfeeding.
Dr. Sujatha Guttala, a gynecologist, provided an in-depth explanation of various breastfeeding positions and techniques, emphasizing the biological position, the concept of cue feeding, and the benefits of colostrum and breast milk for both mother and baby.
Pediatricians Dr. S. Rajashekar and Dr. Sanjay Kumar, along with gynecologists Dr. Radha Kumari and Dr. Sunitha Hanumanthu, engaged the audience in an interactive session.
A standout moment was a role-play by the hospital’s nurses, effectively communicating the importance of breastfeeding.
In his address, Dr. A.P. Naveen Kumar highlighted the significance of breastfeeding and the critical role of privacy and support from hospital staff and family in providing a positive breastfeeding experience.
The program saw active participation from the general public, several doctors, and other medical staff from VSGH.
