With Haryana Assembly elections set for October 5, the BJP is targeting a third consecutive win in the state. The party has now announced 87 candidates for the 90-seat assembly, with its second list adding 21 new names. Among the notable matchups, Olympian Vinesh Phogat will compete against Captain Yogesh Bairagi, who is running on a BJP ticket from Julana.
The BJP’s first list included key figures such as Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will contest from Ladwa after serving as MP for Kurukshetra from 2019 to 2024. Former state BJP president Om Prakash Dhankar will contest from Badli, and veteran leader Anil Vij will seek re-election from Ambala Cantt.
The second list also features several political figures who recently joined the BJP, including Devender Singh Babli from Tohana, Shruti Choudhry from Tosham, and Aarti Singh Rao from Ateli. These additions underscore the party’s strategy to bolster its influence across Haryana, particularly in the south.
As the election date approaches, the BJP is positioning itself for a strong campaign against a resurgent Congress. Vote counting is set for October 8.
