The Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri M.L. Khattar, encouraged Central Public Sector Units (CPSUs) to adopt challenging garbage hotspots following the nationwide launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign by Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar on September 17, 2024. This call for action was part of a high-level meeting with leaders from 45 CPSUs, including key organizations like DMRC, RailTel, NTPC, and Airports Authority of India, to discuss the adoption of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs).
The campaign has seen exceptional engagement from citizens, state governments, ministries, and NGOs across the country, with over 5 lakh CTUs identified for cleaning and rejuvenation. CPSUs are playing a pivotal role in this initiative, offering support through manpower, machinery, and participation in activities such as Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, Swachh Bharat Cultural Festivals, and waste-to-art projects.
During an open house discussion, Shri Khattar emphasized that the work on CTUs extends beyond the campaign and should continue into the future. He urged CPSUs to prioritize waste-to-wealth initiatives to ensure sustainable waste management and beautification efforts nationwide.
