The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has greenlit 10 major capital acquisition proposals totalling ₹1,44,716 crore. Impressively, 99% of these funds will be sourced from indigenous suppliers under the “Buy (Indian)” and “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)” categories.
Among the key approvals is the procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) to modernize the Indian Army’s tank fleet. These advanced Main Battle Tanks will feature superior mobility, all-terrain capability, multi-layered protection, precision firepower, and real-time situational awareness.
The DAC also approved the acquisition of Air Defence Fire Control Radars to enhance the military’s ability to detect and track aerial threats while providing precise firing solutions. Additionally, the Forward Repair Team (Tracked) was approved, and designed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, to support in-situ repairs during mechanized operations. This equipment will be crucial for both mechanized Infantry Battalions and Armoured Regiments.
Further boosting the Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) capabilities, three proposals were cleared for the procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels. These assets will enhance ICG’s effectiveness in maritime surveillance, patrolling, search and rescue, and disaster relief operations, even in challenging weather conditions.
