Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, where he is set to release the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto) for the upcoming assembly elections. The release is scheduled for today around 3:30 PM at a hotel in Jammu, with senior party leaders in attendance.
Shah’s visit is crucial for the BJP as it faces increasing challenges ahead of the elections, including protests and defections following ticket allocations. On the first day of his visit, he will unveil the manifesto, hold meetings with party leaders, and engage with delegations of party workers in the evening.
On Saturday, Amit Shah will officially launch the BJP’s campaign in Jammu by addressing a city rally. The BJP places significant importance on the Jammu district, which comprises 11 assembly constituencies. In the 2014 elections, the party secured nine seats, contributing to its overall tally of 25.
Security has been heightened in and around Jammu in anticipation of Shah’s visit, with multi-tier arrangements at key venues, including the BJP’s media center in the Channi area.
With the announcement of the latest list of four candidates, the BJP has now declared 51 candidates for the 90-member assembly elections set to begin on September 18. The second phase is scheduled for September 25, followed by the third phase on October 1. The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the results on October 8, alongside those of Haryana.
The BJP’s campaign is anticipated to gain further momentum as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders are scheduled to address rallies across the Union Territory.
