Today in New Delhi, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Law & Justice (Independent Charge), inaugurated the new Notary Portal (https://notary.gov.in) during an event organized by the Department of Law & Justice. This portal is designed to provide a seamless, paperless, and efficient online interface between notaries and the government, streamlining services such as applying for notary appointments, issuing and renewing Certificates of Practice, changing practice areas, and submitting annual returns.
With the Notary Portal, Central Notaries will no longer need to submit physical applications. Instead, they can easily submit requests online, track their progress, and download digitally signed Certificates of Practice through their DigiLocker accounts. The portal represents a significant step toward the government’s vision of Digital India, as highlighted by Minister Meghwal, who praised the portal for its user-friendly design and its potential to benefit both notaries and the public.
The first digital Certificate of Notary Practice was issued to Shri Bhura Ram of Bikaner, Rajasthan, following the portal’s inauguration. Dr. Rajiv Mani, Law Secretary, emphasized that the Notary Portal will enhance the speed, efficiency, and transparency of the notary selection and appointment process across India, while also creating a digital storage facility for all notary-related records.
Developed in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the portal will be rolled out in phases, starting with the issuance of Certificates of Practice to provisionally selected notaries. Additional features, including the renewal of Certificates of Practice and the submission of Annual Returns, are expected to be launched later this year.
This new digital initiative is set to revolutionize the administration of the Notary Act, benefiting citizens nationwide by making notary services more accessible and efficient.
