President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the critical need for fostering research within India’s education system during her address at the 21st convocation ceremony of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune. She asserted that Indian research scholars possess the capability to address not only the challenges faced by the nation but also global issues.
Highlighting the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the President noted its strong emphasis on research, aiming to propel India towards becoming a global leader in innovation and problem-solving. She encouraged students to strive for excellence, urging them not to equate success merely with material wealth such as money, large homes, or cars. Instead, she called on them to use their knowledge to develop solutions that uplift marginalized communities and promote sustainability.
Murmu expressed confidence in the younger generation’s commitment to the nation’s development, recognizing the immense talent and skill among India’s youth. She urged them to understand societal needs and leverage government initiatives like Start-Up India, Skill India, and Stand-Up India to achieve their aspirations.
The President also encouraged professors, faculty members, and alumni of Symbiosis University to actively promote research, noting that years of dedicated research lead to groundbreaking innovations and solutions to pressing challenges. She highlighted the multi-disciplinary research centers at Symbiosis University, which are making significant contributions in fields such as water resource management, stem cell research, nano-science, and climate change.
Murmu advised students to pursue excellence in every endeavor, reminding them of the saying, “Chase excellence, and success will follow.” She urged them to understand the true meaning of success, which includes improving the standard of living for others and making a positive impact on society.
The President also emphasized the importance of students understanding the diverse cultures and needs of different communities across India. She encouraged them to develop innovative solutions, such as software, healthcare products, and marketing strategies, that benefit everyone, especially the underprivileged, while also promoting sustainability.
Murmu highlighted the importance of initiatives like Start-up India, Skill India, Make in India, and Digital India in helping students achieve their goals. She also underscored the significance of Nari Shakti (women’s power) in national development, urging educational institutions to support female students in pursuing higher education and ensuring a safe and encouraging environment.
Finally, the President commended the establishment of ‘Symbiosis Arogya Dham,’ a step towards enhancing medical services, and called on educational institutions to provide value-based education combined with cutting-edge technology to prepare the young generation for future challenges.
