Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is on a two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to assess the flood situation. In Andhra Pradesh, Shri Chouhan conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas including Budameru, Jakkampudi, Kandrika, and the Krishna River fields in Vijayawada, which were severely damaged by heavy rains. He also inspected the Prakasham Barrage Dam and met with affected farmers and locals to discuss their challenges.
While visiting Jakkampudi, Shri Chouhan personally entered the floodwaters to meet residents and hear their concerns. He assured them that both the Central and State governments are working relentlessly to provide relief, restore normalcy, and address immediate needs such as food, water, and essential supplies.
Shri Chouhan highlighted the unprecedented rainfall, stating that the region hasn’t experienced such flooding in the last 50 years. He praised the efforts of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu Naidu and local officials for their round-the-clock response, ensuring the delivery of essentials to those in need despite the challenging conditions. He reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation, and the Central government will provide all necessary support to aid recovery efforts.
The Union Minister emphasized that damage assessment, including losses to crops and household goods, has already begun. Preliminary estimates indicate that crops spanning 1.8 lakh hectares, impacting nearly 2 lakh farmers, have been affected. Shri Chouhan assured that the Central and State governments will collaborate to ensure compensation for the losses and restore normalcy as soon as possible.
Shri Chouhan will continue his tour with a visit to Telangana, where he will assess the flood damage in Khammam village. He will meet with local farmers, discuss the situation with officials, and ensure that relief efforts are underway.
