Haryana and J&K Assembly Elections 2024
As the counting of votes for the 2024 assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir progresses, the BJP is leading in Haryana, defying most exit polls that predicted a comfortable win for the Congress. Many pollsters anticipated Congress to secure over 50 seats, with some even projecting more than 60 seats in the 90-member assembly, signaling an end to the BJP’s decade-long governance in the state.
Meanwhile, in Jammu & Kashmir, where the first assembly election is being held since the abrogation of Article 370, the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance are in the lead. Pollsters had predicted a hung assembly in J&K but gave an edge to the NC-Congress alliance. The BJP, despite expecting strong support from the Jammu region after the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, is not seeing significant gains compared to its 2014 performance.
The outcomes in both states are shaping up to be critical for the political landscape, with Haryana challenging pre-election predictions and J&K seeing the impact of a historic election post-Article 370.
