The Fight Against Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle cell anemia, a severe health concern among tribal populations, has prompted Madhya Pradesh to adopt advanced diagnostic methods and targeted community programs. Through initiatives such as genetic counseling, widespread screening, and the use of HPLC machines, the state has taken pivotal steps to address this challenge.
The Sickle Cell Eradication Mission envisions a sickle-cell-free India by 2047. Key components include a specialized laboratory at AIIMS Bhopal for newborn testing, prenatal diagnostic services in collaboration with Sankalp India, and advanced digital tools like the National Sickle Cell Portal and a dedicated mobile app for efficient tracking and management.
Significance of the Stamp
The commemorative stamp symbolizes the state’s commitment to eradicating sickle cell anemia and highlights its phased mission, which started with districts like Alirajpur and Jhabua. Gradually, the initiative expanded to 17 states, underscoring a nationwide effort to combat this hereditary disease.
This release by the Department of Posts represents India’s unwavering dedication to addressing public health challenges and improving the well-being of marginalized communities. The stamp serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, policymakers, and tribal communities in creating a healthier future for India.
For collectors and enthusiasts, the stamp is now available at the Department of Posts’ official e-commerce platform.
