The Jharkhand Assembly elections have witnessed a stunning outcome as the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) alliance, part of the INDIA bloc, is making a remarkable comeback. After an initial lag in the early rounds, the alliance is now leading in over 50 of the 81 seats in the state assembly. On the other hand, the BJP-led NDA, which started with a substantial lead, is now leading in just 26 seats.
Vote counting began at 8 AM today, and it is expected to wrap up in a few hours. The JMM contested 41 seats in the 81-member assembly, with its allies—Congress (30 seats), Rashtriya Janata Dal (6), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (4)—filling the remaining seats. The BJP fought 68 seats, with its allies, including the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) (10 seats), Janata Dal (United) (2 seats), and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (1 seat).
