Canadian MP Chandra Arya has voiced strong criticism following an incident at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, where a group of alleged Khalistani extremists reportedly assaulted devotees. Videos circulating on social media show individuals with Khalistani flags attacking worshippers with sticks outside the temple. Arya stated that this violent extremism “crosses a red line” and reflects a deepening issue in Canada. He expressed concerns that Khalistani extremists might be exploiting Canada’s freedom of expression laws to avoid accountability.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the violence, calling it “unacceptable,” while opposition leader Pierre Poilievre echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that Canadians must have the right to practice their faith in peace. Poilievre further assured that the Conservative Party opposes this violence and aims to promote unity and safety.
In response to the incident, Peel Regional Police initially described the event as a “protest” but later confirmed an increased presence to address potential violence or illegal actions. The situation has intensified ongoing discussions about extremism and community safety in Canada, with calls for strengthened protection for places of worship and accountability for those involved in violent acts.
