New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday evening after his health reportedly deteriorated. Sources indicated that he was taken to the hospital’s emergency department around 8 PM.
Details regarding the specific cause of his hospitalization remain unclear. His family members, along with senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have arrived at the hospital to be by his side.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is widely regarded as a pivotal figure in India’s economic history, having served as Finance Minister during PV Narasimha Rao’s government from 1991 to 1996. His leadership ushered in transformative economic reforms that reshaped the nation.
As the Prime Minister of India for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014 under the UPA government, Dr. Singh played a key role in policymaking and governance. He remained an active member of the Rajya Sabha until April this year, when he retired from parliamentary duties.
