Melbourne: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah etched his name in cricketing history on Sunday by becoming the joint second-fastest Indian to claim 200 wickets in Test cricket. The milestone came during the fourth day of the fourth Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah achieved this feat by dismissing Australian batter Travis Head for one run in the post-lunch session. Sharing the record with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah reached the 200-wicket mark in his 44th Test match. This makes him the 12th Indian bowler overall to achieve this milestone.
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record as the fastest Indian to 200 Test wickets, achieving it in just 37 matches. Globally, Bumrah ranks behind Pakistan’s Yasir Shah, who reached the milestone in 33 Tests, and Australia’s Clarrie Grimmett, who achieved it in 36 Tests.
