Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, chaired a review meeting of the National Cooperative Organic Limited (NCOL) at the Ministry of Cooperation in New Delhi on January 2, 2025. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Murlidhar Mohol, Ministry Secretary Shri Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Additional Secretary Shri Pankaj Bansal, NCOL Chairman Shri Minesh Shah, NABARD Chairman Shri Shaji K.V., and senior officials.
During the meeting, Shri Amit Shah highlighted the need to link all Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in the country with the organic mission. He stressed launching a national campaign to promote organic products and directed NCOL to prioritize identifying reliable sources of organic produce and ensuring their purity. He proposed building a robust supply chain for organic products under NCOL’s “Bharat Organics” brand, with mandatory batch testing to maintain authenticity and quality.

Citing an example, he noted that farmers in Uttarakhand received 10-15% higher profits from NCOL’s paddy procurement, demonstrating the benefits of organic farming.
The Home Minister also urged PACS to serve as sales points for organic products and seeds, enhancing their role in the supply chain. He called for the inclusion of at least one young farmer in every cooperative society to strengthen the local cooperative structure and act as a motivator for future initiatives. Training programs for PACS members and farmers were also recommended.
Additionally, Shri Shah stressed the importance of effective marketing to raise awareness about organic products and boost demand, particularly during festivals. He encouraged NABARD and the Ministry of Cooperation to create a mechanism to provide loans tailored to farmers’ capacities, ensuring financial support for their transition to organic farming.
Through these measures, Shri Amit Shah underlined the potential for NCOL and PACS to drive growth in organic farming while ensuring fair returns for farmers and expanding access to high-quality organic products for consumers.
