New Delhi, January 15, 2025 – A thick layer of fog blanketed Delhi and its surrounding areas early this morning, reducing visibility to zero and causing widespread disruptions in air, rail, and road transportation.
At least 184 flights have been delayed, and seven flights canceled due to poor visibility, while 26 trains bound for Delhi are running behind schedule. Six trains have had their timings adjusted to accommodate the delays. Road traffic also experienced significant slowdowns across the capital and neighboring cities.
The Delhi Airport authority issued an advisory at 7:30 am, urging passengers to stay updated on their flight status. “While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may be affected. Passengers are requested to contact their respective airlines for updated information. We regret any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
Leading budget airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet, have also warned passengers of potential delays and encouraged them to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a morning temperature of 9°C in Delhi and predicted dense fog conditions persisting into the evening, with a possibility of light rain during the night. Cloudy skies are expected later in the day.
The city’s air quality remains in the “poor” category, further exacerbating the challenges posed by the fog. Travelers across the region are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and anticipate potential delays.
