Vadnagar witnessed a historic milestone today with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Archaeological Experiential Museum and Interpretation Centre. The event was jointly organized by the Union Ministry of Culture and the Government of Gujarat and presided over by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah. The ceremony was graced by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and senior officials from both governments.
This landmark project celebrates Vadnagar’s 2,500-year-old history as a vibrant trade hub along ancient routes. Its rich architectural and cultural heritage, including landmarks like the Kirti Toran, Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple, and Sharmistha Lake, reflects a confluence of diverse traditions.
The museum spans 12,500 square meters and features nine thematic galleries and a 4,000 square meter excavation site showcasing remains up to 18 meters deep. Developed with an investment of ₹298 crore, the project integrates capital development and five years of operational maintenance.

1. Main Museum Building: Home to a comprehensive collection of over 5,000 artifacts and interactive exhibits.
2. 50-Meter Connecting Bridge: Linking the museum to the excavation site.
3. Excavation Site Structure: Offering visitors a protected yet immersive view of the archaeological remains.
The museum blends physical artifacts with cutting-edge digital experiences, offering a detailed narrative of Vadnagar’s evolution. Visitors can explore ceramics, shell artifacts, coins, ornaments, weapons, tools, sculptures, play objects, food grains, skeletal remains, and even DNA samples. A walkway provides direct interaction with the excavation site, ensuring a unique and engaging journey into the past.
