In a determined effort to accelerate the development of key infrastructure projects, Shri Amardeep Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), chaired a high-level review meeting to address challenges faced by mega projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The meeting brought together senior officials from various Central Ministries, State Governments, and project proponents, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening inter-ministerial and state coordination through the Project Monitoring Group (PMG).
A total of 21 critical issues linked to 14 large-scale projects were discussed, including four under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The combined value of these projects exceeds ₹13,162 crore, underscoring their economic significance. Additionally, concerns related to a private sector project worth ₹600 crore were also reviewed, reflecting the government’s inclusive approach toward both public and private enterprises.
One of the most crucial discussions centered around the transmission infrastructure for the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, a project of national importance in India’s clean energy transition. Expected to generate approximately 81 billion units of renewable electricity annually, the park will significantly reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels while creating an estimated 15,200 green jobs across various sectors such as construction, engineering, operations, and maintenance. The scale and impact of this initiative highlight India’s ambitious commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Another key project under review was Reliance Jio’s 5G and 4G expansion initiative, which promises faster connectivity, lower latency, and broader coverage. This expansion is not just about improving mobile services; it plays a crucial role in advancing technologies such as smart city solutions and the Internet of Things (IoT), ultimately boosting digital infrastructure and economic growth.
During the meeting, Shri Bhatia reinforced the government’s dedication to ensuring smooth project execution by enhancing institutional monitoring mechanisms. He urged all relevant authorities to adopt a proactive stance in resolving pending issues and encouraged private players to fully utilize the PMG platform. The collaborative efforts of the Central and State Governments, along with private stakeholders, remain pivotal in ensuring timely implementation of these transformative projects.
