The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has reopened for applications with the launch of Round 2 of its pilot phase. Following an overwhelming response in the first round, which saw over six lakh applications, this new phase offers more than one lakh internship opportunities in leading companies across 730 districts in India. This initiative is a beacon of hope for countless young individuals looking to gain meaningful work experience and enhance their employability.
Over 300 top companies from diverse sectors, including Oil, Gas & Energy, Banking and Financial Services, Travel & Hospitality, Automotive, Metals & Mining, Manufacturing & Industrial, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), have partnered with the scheme. Their participation reflects a commitment to equipping India’s youth with essential industry experience and professional connections that can open doors to future careers.
The application process has been designed to be flexible and accessible. Eligible candidates can explore and select internships based on their preferred district, state, and industry, with the option to filter opportunities within a customizable radius from their current address. Each applicant may apply for up to three internships, increasing their chances of securing a position that aligns with their skills and aspirations.
To raise awareness and ensure maximum participation, more than 70 IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) events are being conducted nationwide. These events are strategically organized in colleges, universities, ITIs, and employment fairs (Rozgar Melas) where the demand for internships is the highest. Additionally, national digital campaigns are being run across multiple platforms, utilizing influencers to reach and engage young audiences effectively.
The scheme, led by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, is specifically designed for individuals aged 21 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in a full-time academic program or employment. By offering 12-month paid internships in top companies, the initiative provides young professionals with a structured pathway to enter the workforce with confidence and practical skills.
Financial support is a key feature of the scheme, with each intern receiving a monthly stipend of ₹5,000, along with a one-time financial assistance of ₹6,000 to help cover initial expenses. Internships will include at least six months of professional experience, ensuring that participants not only learn but also apply their skills in a real-world setting, making them job-ready.
With the second round of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme now open, eligible youth are encouraged to seize this opportunity to shape their careers. Those interested can apply through the official portal: https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/. As India continues to invest in its young workforce, initiatives like PMIS play a crucial role in empowering the next generation and building a stronger, more resilient economy.
