In a significant address at the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Secunderabad, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi laid out a comprehensive vision for the Indian Army’s transformation, emphasizing five key pillars: technology absorption, structural changes, human resource development, and fostering greater cohesion among the three services. Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-20), Gen Dwivedi provided a roadmap for making the Indian Army a future-ready combat force capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
With a clear focus on modernization, the Army Chief highlighted the importance of shifting from a process-driven approach to an outcome-oriented strategy, ensuring that the effectiveness of military operations takes precedence over mere performance metrics. He outlined a phased approach to transformation, categorized into the Era of Transition, the Era of Consolidation, and the Era of Control, each designed to strengthen the Army’s operational readiness and self-reliance.
Gen Dwivedi stressed the need for the armed forces to remain agile, mobile, and technologically proficient. He linked this transformation to the broader national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, underscoring the role of self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) in securing India’s strategic interests. He also reiterated the importance of India’s armed forces in maintaining national security and positioning the country as a key regional security partner.
The event marked the successful completion of the HDMC-20, a prestigious course designed to prepare senior officers for leadership roles in higher defense management and policymaking. A total of 167 officers, including 14 from friendly foreign nations, graduated from the program. Addressing these future strategic leaders, the Army Chief urged them to embrace innovation, adaptability, and the core values of Truth, Trust, and Transparency as they take on critical responsibilities in shaping India’s defense strategy.
To recognize excellence, Gen Dwivedi personally felicitated meritorious officers for their outstanding academic and professional achievements. The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, faculty members, and distinguished guests, reinforcing the significance of the occasion. As these officers step into pivotal command and staff roles, their expertise and insights gained at CDM are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s defense capabilities and contributing to the nation’s security landscape.
