As part of the ongoing celebrations for Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2025, pharmacy colleges and universities across the country hosted seminars to raise awareness about the Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana. Held in 30 cities across different states, these seminars aimed to educate pharmacy students on the initiative’s benefits, encouraging them to not only understand its impact but also explore entrepreneurial opportunities by opening Jan Aushadhi Kendras and contributing to affordable healthcare.
Pharmacists play an essential role in society, ensuring that medicines are dispensed correctly and guiding patients on their proper usage. Recognizing this, the awareness sessions provided students with detailed insights into Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, a scheme dedicated to making high-quality medicines available at significantly lower prices. The discussions emphasized how the initiative is not just about affordable healthcare but also about empowering young professionals with business opportunities. Students were encouraged to consider opening their own Jan Aushadhi Kendras, becoming self-reliant while serving a greater social cause.
A key highlight of these sessions was the introduction of the Jan Aushadhi Sugam Mobile App, which helps citizens locate the nearest Jan Aushadhi Kendra, check medicine availability, and compare prices. The app’s user-friendly interface is designed to ensure that people can easily access affordable medications without unnecessary hassle. With over 15,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras currently operational across India, the initiative is already making a significant impact. The government has set an ambitious target of expanding this network to 25,000 outlets by March 2027, ensuring wider accessibility and affordability.
The Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana has been instrumental in promoting the use of generic medicines, which offer the same efficacy as branded drugs but at a fraction of the cost. By spreading awareness among future pharmacists, these seminars reinforced the idea that healthcare should be both high-quality and affordable. Students were not only inspired to be part of this movement but also made aware of how their careers could align with a mission to serve society.
Every year, Jan Aushadhi Diwas is observed on March 7 to highlight the importance of affordable medicines and increase public awareness about the scheme. As in previous years, a week-long series of events has been organized from March 1 to March 7, ensuring widespread participation from healthcare professionals, students, and the general public. The initiative, launched under the vision of the Prime Minister, continues to grow, strengthening India’s healthcare system and making essential medicines accessible to all.
