With just under three months remaining until the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, preparations are in full swing, and the Indian Yoga Association (IYA) has stepped forward to play a key role in making this year’s celebrations truly remarkable. In a recent meeting with senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush, IYA representatives, led by Secretary General Subodh Tiwari, discussed their extensive plans to spread the message of yoga far and wide.
Enthusiasm for the event was palpable, with representatives from 27 state chapters participating in the discussions, eager to contribute to the success of the global yoga movement. The Ministry of Ayush expressed gratitude for the IYA’s proactive approach, recognizing that this collaboration would not only enhance the celebration but also elevate awareness of yoga’s profound benefits across the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced the theme for IDY 2025: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” He has urged people to embrace yoga in their daily lives and take pride in India’s rich tradition of holistic wellness. In line with this vision, IYA has committed to amplifying the theme through its network of institutions, ensuring that the message reaches millions.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of IDY, and to commemorate the milestone, ten unique signature events have been planned. Among these are ‘Yoga Sangam,’ a synchronized yoga demonstration at 100,000 locations aiming for a world record; ‘Yoga Bandhan,’ which will foster international collaborations to host yoga sessions at iconic landmarks; and ‘Yoga Parks,’ which will see the establishment of 1,000 dedicated spaces for long-term community engagement. Other notable initiatives include ‘Harit Yoga,’ combining yoga with environmental sustainability efforts, and ‘Samyoga,’ an ambitious 100-day program integrating yoga with modern healthcare.
The International Day of Yoga has grown into a global phenomenon since its inception in 2015, uniting millions of practitioners across continents. From record-breaking gatherings at Rajpath to virtual celebrations that reached hundreds of millions during the pandemic, each year has seen new milestones in participation and impact. The 2025 edition is poised to be the most significant yet, reinforcing yoga’s role as a unifying force that transcends borders, cultures, and generations.
As the countdown to June 21 continues, the Indian Yoga Association, along with the Ministry of Ayush, remains committed to ensuring that this year’s celebrations inspire people worldwide to embrace yoga—not just for a day, but as a way of life.
