210 Panchayat Leaders to Join Independence Day 2025

New Delhi, August 14, 2025: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) will host 210 Panchayat representatives from 28 States and Union Territories as special guests during the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort, New Delhi, on August 15th. Accompanied by their spouses and nodal officers, a total of 425 participants will attend the festivities, highlighting the government’s focus on grassroots leadership.

Felicitation and Special Launch

A formal felicitation program for these distinguished guests will be held on August 14th, 2025. The ceremony will be graced by Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, and Secretary MoPR Shri Vivek Bharadwaj. The event will also mark the launch of the AI-powered SabhaSaar application and the release of the 16th issue of the Gramoday Sankalp magazine.

Celebrating Women Leaders in Panchayats

This year, a significant number of women Panchayat leaders are among the special guests. These elected women representatives (EWRs) have implemented visible improvements in their Gram Panchayats, including better infrastructure, enhanced public services, and inclusive community initiatives. Their leadership reflects the growing strength of rural governance, combining administrative responsibilities with innovative, forward-looking development strategies.

The selected leaders have successfully promoted flagship government schemes such as Har Ghar Jal Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, and Mission Indradhanush. They have also introduced innovative local solutions at the grassroots, demonstrating how empowered Panchayat leadership can accelerate rural development and citizen engagement.

The 2025 Independence Day celebrations for Panchayat leaders revolve around the theme “आत्मनिर्भर पंचायत, विकसित भारत की पहचान”, emphasizing self-reliant Panchayats as a cornerstone of India’s development. Through programs like SabhaSaar, MoPR aims to strengthen digital governance and promote efficient decision-making at the village level.
