The 38th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology (CABA) is set to take place on April 23, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Organised by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the gathering marks another important step in the country’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich archaeological heritage.
Formed in 1945, CABA has played a vital role in building and strengthening collaborations between the ASI, academic institutions, universities, and State Governments. Its purpose has always been rooted in a shared passion for safeguarding India’s ancient past and ensuring that the knowledge of its historical and cultural wealth is expanded through meaningful research and cooperation.
The Board is reconstituted every three years with the approval of the Minister of Culture, who also serves as its Chairperson. Currently, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat holds this role and will be overseeing the proceedings of the upcoming meeting. His leadership continues a tradition of ministerial involvement that reflects the importance placed on cultural and historical preservation at the highest levels of government.
The previous meeting, the 37th session, was held in June 2022 and was chaired by the then Minister of Culture, Shri G. Kishan Reddy. This year’s session will review the progress made on suggestions and resolutions discussed during that meeting and will consider fresh input from Board members aimed at further enhancing the effectiveness of archaeological initiatives across the country.
The gathering at Bharat Mandapam is expected to bring together experts and stakeholders who are deeply invested in India’s historical legacy. Their insights and collaborative efforts will help shape future archaeological research, conservation projects, and policy directions. As always, the meeting reflects a shared national commitment to understanding, protecting, and celebrating India’s timeless heritage.
