In a heartwarming step toward rural upliftment, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated virtually in the Grihapravesh ceremony of 55,000 newly built homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in Guwahati. The event marked a moment of joy and dignity for thousands of families across Assam as they entered their own homes—many for the first time.
During the ceremony, Shri Chouhan announced the sanctioning of an additional 3.76 lakh houses for the state under the current financial year, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring that no rural household is left behind in the journey toward safe and secure housing. He commended Assam’s achievement of completing 20 lakh houses under PMAY-G, acknowledging it as a testament to the collective efforts of the state government and the unwavering spirit of its people.
In a particularly touching initiative aimed at empowering women in rural areas, Shri Chouhan launched the Lakhimi Mistri program. This forward-looking effort will train women as masons, giving them valuable skills and opening doors to employment in the construction sector. To mark the launch, safety kits were distributed to five women trainees, symbolizing the start of a new chapter of empowerment and self-reliance.
The Union Minister also virtually inaugurated 21 Knowledge Centres across Assam under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). These centres aim to strengthen agricultural infrastructure and serve as vital resource hubs for farmers, helping them access timely information, tools, and support to improve their livelihoods.
Shri Chouhan expressed appreciation for the proactive governance of Assam’s Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, whose leadership has ensured the effective implementation of these transformative initiatives. Dr. Sarma, in turn, thanked the Union Government for its continued support and emphasized Assam’s ongoing dedication to improving the lives of its rural citizens, especially farmers and women.
Also present at the event were Assam’s Agriculture Minister Shri Atul Bora and Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Shri Ranjeet Kumar Dass, whose presence further reflected the collaborative spirit driving Assam’s rural development journey.
The ceremony was not just an official event—it was a celebration of hope, security, and progress for thousands of families who now have a place to call their own.
