The Quality Council of India (QCI) has granted provisional approval to the National Test House (NTH), Ghaziabad, as a certification body for drone type certification under the Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). This approval is a significant step in advancing India’s drone ecosystem, aligning with the government’s efforts to enhance the industry in line with the Drone Rules 2021.
To commence its new role, a team of NTH auditors will conduct an onsite assessment at Vimaana Aerospace Technologies in Noida on September 11-12, 2024. The audit will focus on the D1 application for the Krishiraj 1.0, an agricultural drone designed to address specific farming needs. This assessment is a crucial part of the type certification process required for drones operating in India.
NTH will evaluate drone models to ensure they meet national and international standards, supporting the government’s goal of establishing India as a leading hub for drone technology. This initiative supports various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and infrastructure, by providing safe and certified drone solutions. NTH is offering its certification services at a competitive fee of ₹1.5 lakh, reflecting its commitment to fostering innovation in the drone sector.
NTH’s rapid progress in drone certification highlights its efficiency and expertise. Established in 1912 and operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, NTH has a long history of contributing to India’s industrial development through testing, calibration, and quality assurance services.
With its new certification capability, NTH supports India’s “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, ensuring that domestic drone technologies meet global standards. The upcoming assessment at Vimaana Aerospace Technologies underscores NTH’s dedication to rigorous evaluation and safety, aiding the development of advanced drone technologies tailored to India’s needs.
