Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, celebrated the first Foundation Day of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today. During the event, he launched several major initiatives aimed at bolstering cyber crime prevention efforts.
Under the Secured Cyber Space campaign, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, I4C has become a pivotal element in the nation’s cyber security framework. Today’s event saw the unveiling of four significant initiatives designed to enhance the effectiveness of cyber crime prevention:
- Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC): This new facility will serve as a collaborative hub involving major banks, financial institutions, telecom providers, and law enforcement agencies to address online financial crimes.
- Samanvay Platform: This web-based platform will centralize data on cybercrime, facilitate information sharing, and support coordination among law enforcement agencies nationwide.
- Cyber Commandos Program: Aimed at developing around 5,000 trained cyber commandos over the next five years, this program will strengthen cyber security across states and central police organizations.
- Suspect Registry: This national registry will aggregate data from various sources, including the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), to improve fraud risk management within the financial sector.
In his address, Shri Amit Shah emphasized that cyber security extends beyond the digital realm and is integral to national security. He highlighted the necessity for a unified effort across various stakeholders to safeguard cyber space effectively. The Home Minister underscored that no single entity can secure the cyber environment alone; collaboration is key.
Shri Shah also pointed out that I4C’s efforts, including the launch of the new logo, vision, and mission, are crucial in advancing India’s cyber security. He called for a public awareness campaign to educate citizens on preventing cyber crime, utilizing various media channels.
The Home Minister praised I4C’s achievements over the past nine years and noted that its inclusion in the Ministry of Home Affairs has significantly enhanced its capacity. He urged state governments to promote the 1930 helpline and suggested organizing an awareness fortnight to boost its visibility and utility.
The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, and various senior officials, including those from banking, financial, and cyber sectors.
Shri Amit Shah concluded by noting the rapid increase in internet users and digital transactions in India, which underscores the growing need for robust cyber protection measures. The new initiatives launched today are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s defenses against cyber threats.
