Mahalaxmi Vrat 2024: Is the Final Fast on September 23 or 24? Simple Udyapan Method Explained

RR Team, September 23, 2024September 23, 2024

Mahalaxmi Vrat is observed annually, commencing on the Ashtami date of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada and concluding on the Ashtami date of the Krishna Paksha in Ashwin. This sacred period is dedicated to worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, with devotees fasting to enhance happiness and prosperity. It is believed that observing this fast can alleviate financial troubles. The final day of the Vrat, known as Udyapan, holds special significance. Here’s everything you need to know about the Udyapan method for Mahalaxmi Vrat.

When is Udyapan for Mahalaxmi Vrat?

According to the Panchang, the Ashtami date of the Krishna Paksha in Ashwin will begin on September 24 at 5:45 PM and end the following day, September 25, at 4:44 PM. Therefore, the Udyapan for Mahalaxmi Vrat will be conducted on September 24.

Udyapan Method for Mahalaxmi Vrat

To perform the Udyapan on the final day of Mahalaxmi Vrat, follow these steps:

1. Early Morning Rituals: Rise early during Brahma Muhurta and begin the day with meditation dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi.
2. Cleanliness: Thoroughly clean your home and wear fresh, clean clothes after bathing.
3. Setting Up the Altar: Place the idol of Maa Lakshmi on a chowki (platform) and include gold and silver coins in the worship area.
4. Tying the Sacred Thread: At the start of the Vrat, tie a thread with 16 knots around your wrist. During the Udyapan, keep this thread safe to ensure continued prosperity and abundance.
5. Lighting Lamps: Light 16 lamps made of desi ghee and perform a detailed worship of Maa Lakshmi.

 Offerings to Maa Lakshmi

When offering items to Maa Lakshmi, ensure everything is in multiples of sixteen. You may include:

16 adornments
16 cloves
Batasha, makhana, flowers, and rice
Kheer, fruits, and sweets

Lakshmi Mantra

Recite the following mantra during your puja for blessings:

Ya Rakta Rudhirambra Harisakhi Ya Shree Manolhadini,
Ya Ratnakarmanthanatpragatita Vishnusvaya Gehini.
Saa Maa Patu Manorama Bhagwati Lakshmishcha Padmavati.

By following these guidelines, devotees can observe the Udyapan of Mahalaxmi Vrat with devotion and sincerity, inviting prosperity and well-being into their lives.
