The Delhi government has announced a new initiative offering tax rebates of 10-20 percent for buyers of new vehicles who scrap their old ones. As per a statement issued on October 2, Chief Minister Atishi has approved this incentive scheme, which will be officially notified soon.
The government aims to encourage vehicle owners to scrap older models in exchange for rebates on motor vehicle tax, applicable when purchasing new vehicles within three years. According to the statement, buyers can expect a 20 percent rebate on non-commercial CNG and petrol vehicles, 15 percent on commercial CNG and petrol vehicles, and 10 percent on diesel vehicles.
This policy is designed to reduce pollution by removing outdated, high-emission vehicles from the roads and promoting the adoption of newer, more environmentally friendly models that meet advanced emission standards.
To benefit from the scheme, vehicle owners will need to obtain a certificate of deposit from a registered facility after scrapping their old vehicle. This certificate must then be submitted during the registration of the new vehicle within three years to qualify for the tax rebate.
