The Supreme Court will not be hearing the NEET PG case today, which deals with concerns over the transparency of the results, answer keys, and the normalization process followed by the National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices Manoj Misra and JB Pardiwala, had previously heard the case on September 20. The case was first filed on September 7 and raised by students who are questioning the fairness of the NEET PG 2024 exam process.
The petition, filed by Ishika Jain and other candidates, calls for the release of answer keys, question papers, and a standardized marking system due to the exam being held in two separate shifts. The NEET PG 2024 exam was conducted on August 11 in two shifts instead of the usual single shift. This led to the introduction of a normalization process to ensure fairness.
Advocates representing the aspirants, Vibha Datta Makhija and Tanvi Dubey, argued that NBEMS made last-minute changes to the exam pattern, adding further complications to the process. The NEET PG exam, crucial for medical aspirants, is under scrutiny as students demand more transparency from NBEMS in the evaluation process.
NBEMS has been reluctant to release answer keys, citing the challenge of developing new questions in medicine, a field with highly specialized and intricate knowledge areas. However, the petitioners believe that full disclosure of answer keys and standardized marks is essential for ensuring a fair selection process.
