Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, met with H.E. Ambassador Antonio Bartoli of Italy today at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. Their discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in the agricultural sector between India and Italy.
Dr. Chaturvedi emphasized the strong ties between the two nations, noting the significant potential for joint efforts in trade, investment, and technology within agriculture and its allied sectors. He proposed that existing collaborations, particularly the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Italy, could be bolstered through regular meetings of the Joint Working Group (JWG). He also highlighted opportunities for Italian companies to invest in India’s food parks.
Both parties acknowledged the need for cooperation in various areas, including technical and legal frameworks for plant variety protection, agricultural research and education, safeguarding Geographical Indications, promoting organic farming, and utilizing innovative technologies in precision agriculture. They also discussed skill development for Indian migrant workers and enhancing industry interactions.
The meeting included representatives from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Ministry of External Affairs, and senior officials from various divisions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
