Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Launches Rooftop Solar Power Plant at GSITI in Hyderabad

RR Team, October 14, 2024

On October 12, 2024, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, inaugurated a Rooftop Solar Power Plant at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) in Hyderabad, furthering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a cleaner and greener India. The event took place at the M. S. Krishnan Auditorium and marks a significant advancement in the institute’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

This new solar power facility is set to reduce GSITI’s carbon footprint and promote the use of renewable energy within government institutions. It is projected to meet a substantial portion of the institute’s energy requirements, aligning with India’s broader objective of enhancing the share of renewable energy in its overall energy mix.

In his remarks, Minister Reddy praised GSITI for its dedication to sustainable energy, stating, “This initiative represents a vital stride towards environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has become a global frontrunner in climate action, exemplified by programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which empowers households to utilize solar energy. The 150-kilowatt rooftop solar plant at GSITI is expected to fulfill 75% of the institute’s energy needs, resulting in annual savings of ₹30 lakh, and will set a benchmark for renewable energy use in public institutions.”

S. D. Patbhaje, Additional Director General of the Geological Survey of India (Southern Region), spoke at the event, underscoring the project’s significance for sustainable development. Additionally, Eatala Rajender, Member of Parliament for Malkajgiri, highlighted the vital role of renewable energy in the country’s progress.

The inauguration ceremony also included a sapling planting activity and the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the solar plant’s launch, symbolizing GSITI’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Following the ceremony, attendees toured the solar facility to explore its technical features and benefits.

This solar power plant serves as a model for future government initiatives in renewable energy, reinforcing GSITI’s pivotal role in advancing India’s sustainable energy goals and supporting Prime Minister Modi’s vision of establishing India as a global leader in clean energy.
