Russian envoy Denis Alipov emphasized that resolving the India-China border dispute is complex and requires trust and determination from both nations. Alipov expressed satisfaction with the recent agreement on troop disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), coinciding with a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit in Kazan. He noted Russia’s support for positive relations between India and China but clarified that Russia does not intervene in their negotiations.
Alipov highlighted the importance of trust, recalling Russia’s own lengthy border resolution with China. He expressed confidence that India and China could reach a peaceful solution through sustained dialogue and mutual respect. Russia, he added, values India and China as essential economic powers in the region and continues to advocate for cooperation between them, seeing it as crucial for broader regional stability and global security.
While Russia remains a major defense supplier to India, Alipov reiterated that Moscow respects the sovereignty of both countries and refrains from taking sides in the border issue.
