Canada Accuses India’s Amit Shah of Intimidation Campaign Against Sikh Separatists

Canada has recently accused Indian Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation and violence against Sikh separatists on Canadian soil. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison disclosed to Canada’s national security committee that Shah, a close ally of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is considered responsible for the targeting of Sikh activists, which allegedly includes the assassination of a prominent Canadian Sikh activist.

Morrison confirmed Shah’s involvement to The Washington Post but did not provide evidence to support the accusation. This claim adds tension to already strained relations between Canada and India, which deteriorated following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement that Canada had credible evidence linking Indian agents to the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023.

So far, India has dismissed the allegations as “flimsy” but has not issued an official response to Canada’s recent claims. This new development raises concerns over international relations and the safety of Sikh activists in Canada.
