Sharda Sinha, the legendary folk singer and Padma Bhushan awardee, passed away at 72 after a long battle with cancer, just a month after celebrating her birthday. Her last birthday, shared with fans in a deeply moving Facebook post, has now gone viral. In the post, Sharda fondly recalled her late husband, Brajkishore Sinha, who passed away just a week prior, and her memories of his heartfelt ways of celebrating her special day.
In a poignant reflection from September 30, Sharda wrote about how her husband would quietly slip out early on her birthday to surprise her with roses and her favorite breakfast. Every year, he would wait until I woke up to wish me, she shared, adding with humor how he would use this ritual as an excuse to indulge in his favorite foods, despite his health limitations. I would often ask my children not to serve him the breakfast he’d brought because I knew he’d already enjoyed it outside, she recalled fondly, capturing the tender exchanges between the two.
Her last memory with him, on September 17, was especially touching. Sharda described her parting words: I told him, I will be back in three days, please take care of yourself. He replied, I’ll be fine. You stay healthy and return soon’ while watching me closely. She added, Who knew that would be our last meeting? Her parting assurance, Mai jald hi aaungi (I will join you soon), now takes on a haunting resonance.
In her post, Sharda expressed how much her family felt his absence. My children still feel he’s just out for some work and will return soon. His presence lingers here. Sharda Sinha passed away on November 5, fulfilling her quiet promise to be reunited with her beloved husband.
This post has left her fans deeply moved, as they pay tribute to the love and legacy of this extraordinary couple.
