The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants today for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The charges come in connection with war crimes committed during Israel’s ongoing conflicts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The ICC, based in The Hague, has accused the two Israeli leaders of crimes against humanity and war crimes from October 8, 2023, through at least May 20, 2024.
In a statement, the ICC said:
The Chamber issued warrants of arrest for Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr. Yoav Gallant for crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Additionally, the ICC has charged Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif as a war criminal and has called for his arrest.
This major development comes amid escalating tensions in the region, as Israel continues its military operations against both Hamas and Hezbollah.
