Arjun Tendulkar – the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar – was picked up by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the 2024 IPL auction for his base price of ₹30 lakh on November 25. Initially, Arjun went unsold during the auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but MI later secured him.
Arjun debuted for Mumbai Indians in 2021 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, playing against Haryana. He bowls left-arm pace with a distinctive curved run-up, sharp outswingers, good pace, and late swing. He’s also a left-handed batsman, capable of scoring crucial runs in the lower order.
Arjun’s cricket career has been promising across formats. He has taken 37 wickets in 17 first-class matches, with a best of 5/25 and an average of 33.51. In List A and T20 cricket, he has 21 and 26 wickets, respectively. A standout moment was his 4/10 performance in T20 cricket, while in List A, his economy rate stands at 5.21.
As a batsman, Arjun has scored a century and two half-centuries in first-class cricket, with a highest score of 120. His T20 batting strike rate is 122.98, showing his potential as a lower-order hitter.
Though still early in his career, Arjun Tendulkar has shown strong signs of becoming a promising all-rounder in Indian cricket.
Arjun’s IPL journey began in 2021 when Mumbai Indians bought him for ₹20 lakh. Unfortunately, an injury kept him out of the season, and MI replaced him with Simarjeet Singh. But MI didn’t give up on him, redrafting him in 2022 for ₹30 lakh. In 2023, Arjun finally made his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
He grabbed his first IPL wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad, dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, helping MI win by 14 runs. By the end of the 2023 season, Arjun had taken 3 wickets and was retained by MI for the 2024 season.
