A serious incident occurred in Mumbai when a bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking lost control and caused chaos. According to officials, the 12-meter-long electric bus, manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech and leased by BEST, plowed through pedestrians and vehicles before it eventually entered the Buddha Colony residential complex, where it came to a halt.
Following the incident, rescue operations were swiftly carried out, and the injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident to determine how the bus lost control and to identify any potential issues with the vehicle or its operation.
In the aftermath of the accident, Mumbai Police shut down SG Barve Marg, a key road that connects to Kurla station, due to safety concerns. This closure has caused disruptions in the city’s transport system. As a result, BEST buses are now being rerouted, with operations continuing on 10 alternate routes from nearby locations instead of heading directly to Kurla station. This has impacted many commuters, especially those traveling to the Bandra-Kurla Complex and other destinations from the Kurla bus stand.
The incident has raised concerns about safety and the quality of public services provided to commuters. Authorities are working to ensure better oversight and to prevent similar accidents in the future.
