Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the 45th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation), the ICT-enabled platform for collaborative governance involving the Central and State governments. The meeting focused on eight critical projects with a combined value exceeding ₹1 lakh crore, encompassing metro rail, road connectivity, and thermal power initiatives across various States and Union Territories.
Key Highlights of the Meeting
- Project Reviews and Cost Management:
- The Prime Minister emphasized the need to avoid delays in project implementation, citing cost escalation and the deprivation of public benefits as significant drawbacks of such delays.
- Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R):
- PM Modi stressed the importance of timely rehabilitation and resettlement of families affected by project implementation. He urged officials to prioritize ease of living for affected families by ensuring quality amenities in resettlement areas.
- Public Transport and Metro Projects:
- With metro projects becoming a popular urban transport solution, the Prime Minister advised conducting workshops for cities implementing or planning metro systems. These workshops aim to share best practices and lessons learned, promoting efficiency and innovation.
- Public Grievances in Banking and Insurance:
- Reviewing grievances related to the banking and insurance sectors, PM Modi acknowledged progress in reducing grievance resolution times. However, he emphasized improving the quality of grievance disposal to ensure citizen satisfaction.
- PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:
- The Prime Minister reviewed the rooftop solar initiative and directed states to enhance the installation capacity by fostering a robust vendor ecosystem. He stressed the need to streamline processes from demand generation to operationalization and urged states to adopt a saturation approach, targeting villages, towns, and cities in phases.
Achievements of PRAGATI Platform
Since its inception, PRAGATI has reviewed 363 projects worth approximately ₹19.12 lakh crore. The platform has become a crucial tool for ensuring timely project implementation, fostering collaboration between Central and State governments, and addressing public grievances effectively.
