Heralding RamRajya in Bharat

The podcast episode, blending personal anecdotes and political ideology, has further intensified the political discourse, setting the stage for continued debate in the lead-up to the polls.

RR Team, January 10, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first podcast appearance with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on the “People by WTF” channel has sparked political commentary, with the Congress party mocking his statements as “damage control.” The remarks come months after PM Modi’s controversial claim during the Lok Sabha campaign that he felt he was “not biological but sent by God.”

During the podcast, PM Modi reflected on his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister and acknowledged past missteps. “When I became CM, I had three mantras: to work tirelessly, to act selflessly, and to admit that I am human and may make mistakes, but never with bad intentions,” he said. Addressing a previous controversial remark, he added, “I said something in an insensitive way. Mistakes happen. I am human, not a God.”

Congress’ Response

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the remarks on social media, calling the podcast a public relations effort to counter earlier statements. “This from a man who proclaimed his non-biological status just eight months back. This is clearly damage control,” Ramesh wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Congress has consistently mocked Modi’s earlier “non-biological” claim, labeling him “divine” in political rhetoric. The podcast remarks have reignited this narrative, with Congress leaders questioning Modi’s sincerity in addressing his earlier comments.

Emphasis on Mission-Driven Politics

In the podcast, PM Modi underscored the importance of mission-oriented individuals in politics. “Public service should drive political careers, not personal ambition,” he said. While PM Modi is known for hosting Mann Ki Baat and appearing in television interviews, this marks his debut in the podcasting format.

A Broader Political Context

PM Modi’s statements come at a time of heightened political activity, with the 2025 Delhi elections drawing near. While the podcast aims to present a personal and reflective side of the Prime Minister, critics argue it also serves as a strategic move to reshape narratives ahead of key elections.

The podcast episode, blending personal anecdotes and political ideology, has further intensified the political discourse, setting the stage for continued debate in the lead-up to the polls.
