The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced a temporary ban on the sale and serving of non-vegetarian food items, including fish, meat, and poultry, within a 13-kilometer radius of the Yelahanka Air Force Station. This restriction will be in effect from January 23 to February 17, 2025, in preparation for the Aero India 2025 event.
The prohibition aims to minimize bird-related hazards during the airshow and practice sessions. Leftover food and meat waste often attract predator birds like eagles, which could pose significant risks to aircraft operations. The restriction is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilots, aircraft, and attendees.
Aero India 2025, Asia’s premier air show, will be held at Yelahanka Air Force Station from February 10 to 14. The event will feature spectacular air displays by Indian Air Force jets, helicopter aerobatic teams, and other aircraft. It also includes a Defence Ministers’ Conclave, a CEOs’ Round Table, an iDEX start-up event, and a large trade exhibition showcasing aerospace innovations.
This year’s theme, “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities,” highlights the show’s role in promoting partnerships between Indian and global aerospace firms.
The BBMP has issued strict guidelines:
- Closure of all meat and fish shops within the restricted area during the stipulated period.
- Prohibition on serving non-vegetarian dishes in restaurants and hotels in the vicinity.
- Enforcement under the BBMP Act 2020 and the Indian Aircraft Rules 1937.
The BBMP also previously directed a halt to construction crane operations and a reduction in crane heights within a 10-kilometer radius of the airbase between February 1 and 14.
Since its inception in 1996, Bengaluru has hosted the Aero India show, which is now a significant platform for advancing India’s aerospace and defense industries. The 2025 edition will witness participation from ministers, defense officials, and business delegations seeking collaboration and exploring innovations in aviation.
The restrictions underscore the importance of ensuring safety while hosting a global event of such magnitude in Bengaluru.
